Palace of Beauty

I wanted to leave the last post up as the first thing you see on my blog for a long time, because I thought Abigail looked so cute and proper in those first day of school shots. But, let's be real. This is how she really wishes she could look all of the time.
She said she was on her way to "The Palace of Beauty."

Here are a couple more photos of Abigail showing her enthusiasm for all things silly. She and her friend, Kate, even got the baby into the act.

Off to Kindergarten

This morning began earlier than it has for a few months now. My little alarm clock (baby Nate) woke me up at 6:45--perfect timing for a feeding and a shower before needing to help my other little alarm clock, Abigail, get ready for her first day of school. Although she didn't need much help, because she was dressed and ready to go before I got out of the shower. We walked her to the bus stop at 8:00, and she was off to KINDERGARTEN! She was VERY excited, and I don't think she was nervous at all until the bus actually pulled away. Or maybe that was me that was nervous.

Soooo Big

Nate is 4 months old, and I can't believe how the time has flown by! Abigail took this picture of him a few days ago. I was very impressed, because not only did she capture a smile, this was the one and only shot she took!

We took him to the pediatrician for his check-up on Friday. For anyone who may be interested, here are his stats:

Length: 27 in. (94th percentile)
Weight: 14 lb. 8 oz. (35th percentile)
Head Circumference: 42.5 cm (51st percentile)

One of the ways we can get Nate to laugh is by doing "Soooo Big!" He just loves it for some reason. Alec can also get him to laugh by tickling him--which he especially likes to do to entertain himself during Sunday School. Soooo disruptive! ;)

Fun in the Sun

The latest fun activity at our house is getting in your swimsuit, and getting wet! We don't have any fancy water guns or anything. So far everyone is content with just your run-of-the-mill squirt bottle and watering can. It didn't start out with such happy beginnings though. The first time they did this, they were in their clothes and I got really upset about how sopping wet they were. Then I asked myself, "Why am I fighting it?" (Do you ever realize you are a fighting a battle with your kids that is completely not worth it, and you don't know why you are fighting it?) So, instead of being such a grump, I decided to try my hand at being fun-loving. (: After lunch I get them in their swimsuits (or as Owen says it: "swimsoups"), let them drench each other, wear each other out, and them call them in for nap/rest time. This is where the fun and games end, however, because the mere mention of nap time usually elicits a reaction such as this....

Treehouse Museum

I've been wanting to go to the Treehouse Children's Museum since I moved to Ogden a year ago. Last week we finally went! Alec got off work early, we picked him up, and drove the block and half to the museum. It was really a lot of fun, and I would definitely recommend it to any who may find themselves in the Ogden area. The museum was just moved to a new location about a year ago, and everything is bright, cheerful, and clean. Abigail and Owen had tons of fun playing pretend, making music, and climbing up and down the stairs of the giant tree in the center of the museum. Alec had fun terrorizing Owen with a buffalo hand puppet that he was really frightened of for some reason.

Owen seemed to like playing with the train sets the best. We could hardly tear him away.

This is Grandma Sophie. You can sit on her lap and listen to a story.

Abigail and I decided our favorite part of the museum was the music room. They had all kinds of instruments to try out, including these big drums Abigail is playing.

Happy Birthday, Mary

Happy Birthday, Mary! Don't you wish you had that yummy cake to eat today?

This is what happens....

...when you try to make dinner.

Why can't they just veg-out in front of the T.V. like I want them to do? :) Must they make up their own creative activities (dress-ups and art)?

p.s. If I remember correctly, Abigail has only underwear on underneath this apron. (Semi-nudity is her new thing.)

IKEA

After traveling down to Bluffdale on Saturday for my niece, Lauren's, baptism, I decided that I wanted to check out the new IKEA down that way. I have only been to an IKEA once before in California, and I didn't really get to see the whole store, because the then two-year-old Abigail threw one of her top 3 tantrums of all time and I had to leave the store. After convincing Alec to watch the kids, my sisters and I went shopping.

IKEA pretty much rocks! I bought several things: a train set, a kitchen timer, cutting boards, drinking straws, a stepping stool, and a pot lid organizer...all for only $36! In normal life, the train set alone would be at least $36. And there was so much more I wanted to buy! Of course, they do suck you into buying things a little bit just because they're cheap. You start thinking that for $1.99 you probably should have it. Which, actually, maybe you should.

Anyway, it was fun to wander through the little showrooms and think about want I wanted to buy and where I wanted to put it in my house. The store was pretty crowded. But I could have predicted that based on the fact that it was Saturday, and we are in Utah where we love to go to in mass to whatever the newest store or restaurant is. Oh, and of course we love a bargain!

It was so fun to get out without the kids, and our hubbies were so nice to watch the kids, (of course they were occupied playing Wii at Margaret's house), that we decided to go out to dinner as well. I did have some slight guilt about leaving the men with the kids for that long, but then I thought about how they didn't seem to mind munch, and how I never get to have this much prolonged, uninterrupted, uncensored adult conversation. It was so nice. I love my sisters. I honestly don't know what I would do without them. Even though I only live an hour away from them, I still wish I lived close enough to hang out with them more often. And while I am on the subject of living closer, I also wish I lived closer to IKEA (and The Gap, and Ann Taylor, and well, a lot of things).

Am I Dumb?

So apparently I have some common sense (score above), but definitely not as much sports knowledge (score below). Oh well.

How about you?
